The Muslim community in Washington was shocked by the violent incident that happened to a 17 year old girl on Monday (19/6) night. The teen reportedly was killed by being beaten and then her body was dumped into a pond near the local mosque.
Area of Fairfax County Police Department, Virginia, accusing a 22-year-old man, Darwin Martinez Torres, responsible for the death of the girl.
Meanwhile, the identity of the victim has not known by the police yet. However, residents and relatives identified the victims\ as Nabra Hassanen, a citizen from Reston.
This murder incident reportedly occurred on Monday night shortly after a group of teenagers completed the Iftar at a local mosque which is located in the muslim community area All Dulles, Sterling.
"A man who looked drunk suddenly stepped out of his car with a bat," said Khan's Cover, an eyewitness, through social media.
The teenagers who saw the man, reportedly rushed back into the mosque, except the victim.
Since then, Hassanen was reported missing at around four in the morning local time, before her body was found in a pond near the mosque in the afternoon at around 3pm.
The authorities do not see it need futher investigation as a a case of hatred targeting minorities.
"This case appears to be an incident of violence on the streets involving the perpetrator, and the offender have been prosecuted over the Act of murder," said Police spokesman Don Gotthardt, a Fairfax County, told AFP.
"There is no information that could associate the religion of the victims to the act of violence," he said.
Now, police said the autopsy and investigation is still done to solve the case. Police also have yet to ascertain the cause of death and were still awaiting Hassanen primary medical examination.
A number of citizens protesting against police handling of the case. They could not believe that the police did not consider the case as a crime with hatred.
"Someone could explain why the case was not investigated as a hate crime? I feel very sad and disgusted with the police statement," said a resident with a Twitter account @MaisieRae.
"We need a strong leader to denounce hate crimes or a new leader who is strict on this kind of matter," Twitter @paulshread added, as quoted in the AFP.
Later, the crime that targets Muslims in the U.S. is reported increased. Last month, two people stabbed while intending to stop a guy who wanted to hurt two Muslim teenagers in Portland.
