Here is a campaign to help women in war-torn countries is gathering support.
Women for Women International are attempting to join women all over the world with the hashtag #SheInspiresme, hoping that the campaign will raise funds for women who have suffered the trauma of war, so they can rebuild their lives and inspire others.
With over 20 brutal armed conflicts across the globe and unprecedented levels of violence against women, there’s never been a greater need to support female survivors of conflict, and celebrate the vital contributions that all women make.
The charity works with female survivors of conflict in Afghanistan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kosovo, Iraq, Nigeria, Rwanda and South Sudan. Many of them have been deeply traumatised, having seen loved ones killed and survived horrific violence, often sexual.
Brita Fernandez Schmidt, Executive Director, Women for Women International UK, says: “By shining the light on women who inspire us, we are celebrating women and showcasing the incredible achievements and the vital contribution that women make every day all over the world – here and in countries affected by conflict.
“I know that inspiration alone does not change the world, but inspiration coupled with real support helps women empower themselves – I witness this every day through Women for Women International’s 12 month programme that provides women with practical skills and knowledge. But without the connections, without the inspiration we would not see their world change.”
