Donald Trump Went Silent on Twitter After His Loss In Iowa

As the over-the-top presence on social media, Trump's cliché “Silence is golden” certainly held true on Tuesday morning.

In the week leading up to the Iowa caucuses, the Republican frontrunner issued more than 120 tweets, including posts bashing his closest GOP rival, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, and Fox News host Megyn Kelly. About a half-hour before Monday’s caucuses began, Trump posted a message to his nearly 6 million Twitter followers.

“Time to get out & caucus!” Trump wrote, linking to a Facebook page detailing the locations where his children would be caucusing.

He waited more than 14 hours to tweet again.

Trump, who finished second to Cruz in Iowa, addressed his supporters in Des Moines late Monday night. And for an outspoken real estate mogul known for unapologetically unhinged tirades on the campaign trail, his concession speech was very un-Trump-like.

“We finished second, and I want to tell you something,” Trump said. “I’m honored.”

The brash billionaire even sounded humble.

“Tomorrow afternoon we will be in New Hampshire and that will be something special,” he said.

Trump, though, had yet to address his disappointing Iowa results on Facebook or Twitter.

After Cruz was declared the winner, some Twitter users pointed to a 2013 tweet in which Trump quoted the late professional golfer Walter Hagen.

“No one remembers who came in second,” Trump wrote.

Trump broke his Twitter silence late Tuesday morning.

“My experience in Iowa was a great one,” he tweeted. “I started out with all of the experts saying I couldn’t do well there and ended up in 2nd place. Nice.”

Nigerian army Claims the Second Rescue of Chibok Girl

A second schoolgirl that was seized in the Nigerian town of Chibok has been found, the army says. But a spokesman for the Chibok girls' parents has cast doubt on the claims, saying that the girl's name is not on the families' list of those missing. An army spokesman said Serah Luka was among a group of 97 women and children rescued by troops in the north-east. Islamist militant group Boko Haram has abducted thousands of other girls in recent years, rights groups estimate. This comes two days after the rescue of the first Chibok girl, Amina Ali Nkeki. The army has previously given misleading statements about the rescue of the Chibok girls - in its initial statement after Ms Nkeki was found, it used a wrong name. In all, 218 girls remain missing after their abduction by the Boko Haram Islamist group from Chibok secondary school in north-eastern Nigeria in 2014. Ms Nkeki told a Chibok community leader that six of the kidnapped girls had died, but...
