Syrian Opposition Tells If Government Wrecks Truce Deal

A senior official from Syria's main opposition group said that a  fragile international attempt to halt nearly five years of fighting was in danger of total collapse because of attacks by government forces on Monday. People attend a protest against forces loyal to Syria's President Bashar al-Assad, Russia and the Syrian Democratic forces, in Tariq al-Bab neighbourhood of Aleppo, Syria, February 29, 2016. (Reuters/Abdalrhman Ismail) The cessation of hostilities drawn up by Washington and Moscow faced "complete nullification" because Syrian government attacks were violating the agreement, the official of the Saudi-backed opposition High Negotiations Committee (HNC) said. France said there were reports of attacks on opposition forces in breach of the deal, which came into force on Saturday, and countries backing the Syrian peace process met to try to clarify the situation. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said the pause in the fighting was largel...

‘Inside Out’ : Pixar's Eighth Oscar

Disney-Pixar’s “Inside Out” won the Oscar for best animated film for director Pete Docter and producer Jonas Rivera in what had been regarded as one of the awards season’s most likely outcomes. “We are all so lucky, regardless of a gold man, because we get to make stuff,” an elated Docter said in his acceptance speech. He added that “Inside Out” had been inspired by his own children growing up and concluded by urging the audience to embrace creativity: “You can make stuff. Make films, draw, write. It will make a world of difference.” Docter even made use of the show’s new thank you scroll to announce a special treat for his kids. The scroll, which was introduced to provide extra space for thanking a winner’s family and collaborators, read, “I love you Amanda, Nick & Elie — okay yes, let’s get a dog.” It’s the eighth animated Oscar for Pixar, which has dominated the category since 2003, when “Finding Nemo” won, followed by “The Incredibles,” “Ratatouille,” “Wall-E...

'Captain America: Civil War' Rumored to Have Major Impact on MCU

Fan expectations is keeping increase as the date of release for "Captain America: Civil War" comes closer and closer. Since the first trailer was shown to the public late last year, moviegoers have been eager to find out more about the movie, more so because the people behind the film have also expressed their excitement. Actor Anthony Makie, who plays Falcon aka Sam Wilson, told IGN that this will be the greatest cinematic movie in the Marvel universe so far. Makie said: "It'll be very different because... I feel the best Marvel movies thus far have been Winter Soldier and Iron Man. And I think this movie far surpasses those two movies. I think the Russo brothers and Marvel have done a very good job with upping the ante every movie. And this one definitely does not fail to live up to that." Joe Russo, the co-director for the movie, seems to have strengthened the comment of Makie by saying during an interview with Empire Magazine, which Comic ...

A Photographer Shoved to the Ground While Trying to Document Hecklers Disruption on Trump Rally,

A Donald Trump Virginia Rally was constantly disrupted on Monday by protesters, including some from the Black Lives Matter movement, in a stark display of the divisions the Republican front-runner's presidential campaign has long been accused of sowing. Security slams photographer Christopher Morris to the ground at a Donald Trump rally at Radford University in Virginia on Monday. ( Twitter / @JoePerticone) A Time magazine photographer trying to document the exit of dozens of black protesters from the rally in southwestern Radford, Virginia, was grabbed by the neck and shoved to the ground by a U.S. Secret Service agent. Hecklers disrupted the rally on a day when the New York billionaire fended off criticism that he had not clearly condemned white supremacist support during an interview on CNN on Sunday. Trump taunted the protesters, shouting "Are you from Mexico?" at one of them. Supporters in the audience confronted the hecklers in angry, face-to-face e...

Is Sam Smith Really the Only Openly Gay Oscar Winner?

Viewers of the 88th Academy Awards called the singer Sam Smith’s performance Sunday night in two words: off pitch. Sam Smith and Jimmy Napes, right, accepted the Academy Award for best original song, “Writing’s on the Wall,” for the 2015 James Bond thriller “Spectre” on Sunday.     (Patrick T. Fallon for The New York Times) Even he was not too pleased by his rendition of the Oscar-winning James Bond song “Writing’s on the Wall” at the ceremony, held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles and broadcast to millions worldwide on ABC. He told the BBC, “It was the worst moment of my life.” “I hated every moment of it,” said the British singer, 23, who first made a splash by winning the Grammy Award for best new artist in 2014 and won record of the year at the 2015 Grammys for “Stay With Me.” Mr. Smith’s awkward night did not end with his wobbly singing Sunday. In accepting the Academy Award for best original song for the 2015 Bon...

Trump's Rivals Try to Stop Him for Blaming KKK Stumble on Earpiece

Donald Trump's words in blaming a faulty earpiece to explain his initial refusal to disavow the Ku Klux Klan put him under the fire. "I don't care how bad the earpiece is, Ku Klux Klan comes through pretty clearly," GOP presidential rival Marco Rubio said Monday during a rally in Tennessee. Trump had been asked about support for his campaign from the KKK and David Duke by CNN's Jake Tapper on Sunday, with Trump repeatedly saying he "didn't know" about Duke or the white supremacist groups enough to disavow them. "You say, 'David Duke' to me, I say, 'racist,' immediately," Rubio said in Atlanta at a rally on Monday. "Why wouldn't he condemn the Ku Klux Klan? There is no room in the conservative movement and there is no room in the Republican Party for members of the Ku Klux Klan or racists like David Duke." On Monday, the Trump said he was unable to hear the question due to a bad earpiece. ...

Chris Rock's Asian-Americans Joke for Oscar Awards 2016 Failed to Make People Happy

Chris Rock might've nailed his Oscars opening monologue, but he left some viewers dissappointed with that Asian and Jewish racist joke. "The result of tonight's Academy Awards have been tabulated by the accounting firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers," Rock said. Rock then brought three kids on stage, giving them stereotypical Asian and Jewish names while pretending that they were the Oscars accountants. . @ChrisRock dares you to be offended by this joke. And tweet about it. https://t.co/1IX4Uxtf0J — Mashable News (@MashableNews) 29 Februari 2016 "If anybody's upset about that joke, just tweet about it on your phone that was also made by these kids, OK?" The New York Times Has A Record On Donald Trump Secret Opinion About Immigration

An audio recording from The New York Times believed could deal a serious blow to Donald Trump. The newspaper's staff said it is recorded in an off-the-record meeting, called into question whether he would stand by his own immigration views. Trump visited the paper’s Manhattan headquarters on Tuesday, Jan. 5, as part of a round of editorial board meetings that — as is traditional — the Democratic candidates for president and some of the Republicans attended. The meetings, conducted partly on the record and partly off the record in a 13th-floor conference room, give candidates a chance to make their pitch for the paper’s endorsement. After a dispute over Trump’s suggestion of tariffs on Chinese goods, the Times released a portion of the recording. But that was from the on-the-record part of the session. On Saturday, columnist Gail Collins, one of the attendees at the meeting (which also included editor-in-chief Dean Baquet), floated a bit of speculation in her column...

Who is Going to Win an Oscar?

Gone are the days when you could gather around your Oscar pool sheet and truly wonder who was going to win the major categories, jolted by a win for Marlee Matlin or shocked by "Shakespeare in Love" beating "Saving Private Ryan." These days, awards season is followed almost as closely as the latest Instagram from the "Star Wars" set, leaving little room for the unexpected. Between handicapping sites, wins from various guilds and simple Oscar chatter, predictions harden fairly quickly into conventional wisdom. Still, it's not as if the envelopes have already been opened. Here's what to expect at Sunday night's show. Best picture : For much of awards season, "Spotlight" was leading the best picture race. The film, about a group of investigative reporters looking into sexual abuse by Catholic priests, won best film honors from the broadcast film critics, the American Film Institute and the SAG Awards, among others. ...
